New Gate Centre provides our community with easy access to a variety of services, all designed to educate and move people beyond where they are now including illiterate adults,children, high school and university students. New Gate Center helps to build community in a variety of ways
Adult Literacy Classes: A series of classes to take illiterate, ESL students through the basics of letter formation and phonemes to a grade three reading level.
Teacher Training: Preparing teachers to teach for transformation in both adult and adolescent students..
Library resources: Research and reading material, multilingual material in the local languages, recreational reading and primers for children and adults learning to read will be provided.
Drinking water: An enclosed hand pump with clean and safe drinking water is the only one of its kind within a half mile radius and will be available to members of the community.
Friday night programs: recreational and entertainment choices for youth will provide an alternative to the video clubs they presently attend.
Internet services: Necessary to be able to manage with the 21st Century deluge of information an internet will also provide a great extension of our materials for research and reading.
Family literacy classes: Reaching out to families where one or both parents are illiterate this will be a introduction for all of them to learning in a welcoming and fun way.
Teacher resource center: In addition to teacher training we will provide a special room with materials and resources for teachers to plan lessons, prepare creative learning materials and reinforce the ideas and methods they have been learning through our seminars.
